The Benefits Of Equine Acupuncture Therapy

Equine Acupuncture therapy has become an effective method to solve many equine ailments that do not respond to conventional therapies.  Acupuncture helps decrease pain by stimulating endogenous opioids (our bodies own pain relievers) and beta endorphins (stuff that makes us feel good). Based on what is located at the acupuncture points (nerve endings, blood vessels, lymph ducts, etc), the actual physiologic effects involve a complex series of interactions between the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems.

Acupuncture is effective at treating many different conditions including back soreness, general arthritis, various geriatric ailments, anhidrosis (non-sweaters), laminitis, respiratory issues, and many other conditions. It can also be used for immune regulation, GI regulation (colic), reproductive regulation, performance enhancement, as an anti-inflammatory, and help in improving microcirculation. It also gives us another avenue in treating frustrating illnesses that don’t appear to be responding to our conventional medicines.

Both Dr. Kelly Giunta at the main office and Dr. Julia Hecking in the Valley Division office have completed the acupuncture course at the Chi Institute in Florida, a renowned institution for balancing western medicine with traditional Chinese medicine.
