Lameness and Sports Medicine
Reynolds Cowles, DVM, founder of Blue Ridge Equine Clinic, is a 1967 graduate of Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has been in Albemarle County since graduation. He is involved in the day to day activities of Blue Ridge Equine Clinic. The bulk of his practice concerns lameness in performance and racing horses. His hobbies include foxhunting, bird shooting and fly-fishing.
Reynolds has been deeply involved with the Virginia horse industry for 25 years and has served in many capacities. He is Vice President of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP),a past board member of the AAEP and served as Treasurer from 2005-2008. He has also served on the Advisory Board of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation and the Advisory Committee for the Marion Dupont Scott Equine Center. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association (which awarded him the Distinguished Veterinarian Award in 2009), the Virginia Association of Equine Practitioners, and is a past president of the Virginia Thoroughbred Association. He currently serves as president of the Farmington Hunt Club. Reynolds, his wife Evelyn, and a host of horses and dogs live in Albemarle County at Yadkin Farm.
Ophthalmology
Catherine Nunnery DVM, DACVO is the owner of Equine Veterinary Vision and is available as a consulting ophthalmologist for BREC and other practices in Maryland and Virginia. She is board certified in veterinary ophthalmology. Dr. Nunnery has the capability to provide specialized equipment and expertise to diagnose and treat more complicated and involved diseases of the eye. She is available by appointment only, and she should be contacted directly to schedule an appointment/consultation at BREC.
Michael J. Blair, DVM, MS, Rph, DACVO Blue Ridge Equine Clinic works closely with Dr. Blair of Animal Eye Care of Richmond. He is a board-certified specialist in veterinary ophthalmology. DR Blair has the training to provide additional expertise and special equipment sometimes needed to diagnose and treat more complicated eye cases. He is typically in the Charlottesville area every other Wednesday and available in the afternoons at Earlysville Clinic. Appointments should be scheduled through Dr. Blair’s office.
Dentistry
Jack Easley DVM, MS, DABVP, DAVDC is the founder of Easley Equine Dentistry. He is double boarded in Equine Practice and one of the few ( ie boarded veterinary specialist) in Equine Dentistry. He provides remote additional support and expertise for more complicated problems of the mouth and teeth via telemedicine interpretation of clinical signs, x-rays, and intra-oral pictures. He has traveled to VA for the occasional direct case involvement as well as we have referred him cases to be managed at his home clinic outside of Lexington, Kentucky
Advanced Diagnostic Imaging
Myra Barrett DVM, MS DACVR, and Kurt Sellberg DVM, MS, DACVR are both boarded radiologists and the owners of Inside Information Radiology. Inside Information Radiology provides diagnostic imaging telemedicine support (remote reading or interpretation) of various diagnostic imaging modalities for all types, including but not limited to MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, radiology, and ultrasound. Both Drs. Selberg and Barrett have a vested interest in the horse and have published numerous publications regarding the horse and imaging
